Being the first person in your family to accept Jesus in your life, you most likely don’t have family members you can go to with questions about your new faith. You have to figure out the Christian faith walk on your own, which can be overwhelming and even frustrating at times.
How Can I Grow?
Growing in your relationship with Jesus takes time.
There are so many factors that contribute to growing in your walk with Jesus. I have dedicated a blog specifically for you. Whether you are a first-generation Christian, my prayer is that you find the information that you read helpful to apply to your daily life.
Each week, the blog for first generation Christians will discuss a topic that specifically is geared towards a need or question you may have. While there are many excellent Christian resources available, very few focus specifically on the unique journey of first-generation Christians. That’s why you’ll find dedicated guidance and encouragement here.
At times, you may feel all alone in your new journey with Jesus.
But you don’t have to walk this new journey alone! I would love to help you.
WEEKLY FORMAT
A new blog will come out on Tuesdays each week and it will contain the following:
· Helpful information for first generation Christians
· Bible verse(s) that will apply to the weekly blog
· Reflection Question(s) for first generation Christians
· Practical step(s) to take (if applicable) and
· Close in Prayer
THE WHY?

My Mama, Josie Witczak, was a first-generation Christian, and she shared Jesus with me when I was 10 years old. So, I am a second-generation Christian. Even though my mom was a Christian, I still needed to navigate and learn so much of the various aspects of the Christian faith.
I have learned so much over the past four-and-a-half decades; I would love to pass along what I have learned to you!
I am in the process of writing a book called First Generation Christians: What to Expect in Your New Walk with Jesus. I decided to start a blog for first-generation Christians to get some information out earlier than the book and help provide
· Biblical guidance,
· Practical wisdom, and
· Help take a little mystery out of this new faith adventure you are in
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all of our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
Many times, we go through difficulty and challenges, but God sees it all! He loves us unconditionally and many times He has a purpose for our pain. We may never know on this side of heaven the reasons God has allowed certain things in our life, but I can assure you that God can and will use your past circumstances and trials for good.
HOW DO I KNOW THIS?

Because God has done it for me – time and time again!! This is the reason behind First Generation Christian Blogs. I want to share with you in hopes to help make your walk easy to understand all that God has in store for you.
I would love to pass along the comfort God has given to me to YOU!!

Romans 8:28
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
God can and does use our past hurts and past pain for good – not just in our lives but in the lives of others as well.
I can’t wait to share the many, many lessons God has taught me over the past four-and-a-half decades!! You don’t have to learn everything overnight, and it would be next to impossible. God will help you unravel one area at a time.
All scripture is from the NIV (New International Version).
REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR YOU:
1.What are some challenges you have had in your past?
2. Can you see any good come out of the challenges you have experienced?
3. Do you see God helping you in any of these circumstances? How have you seen God help you?
CHALLENGE:
If you can find a few moments to think about or journal the following questions.
What difficulties are you currently facing as a first-generation Christian?
What are some things you would like to know about your Christian walk?
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you so much for loving me and choosing me to be a part of your family. I have so much to learn. Help me to learn what I need to know – one step at a time. When I get overwhelmed at all I need to learn, help me not to take a step back and remember that YOU are in control of it all. Thank YOU for loving me unconditionally.
Being the first person in my family to know YOU is super exciting and scary all at the same time. Help me to be patient with my family members and friends who don’t know YOU just yet. I know YOU can be trusted and have a plan for my life.
I pray all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
HELPFUL RESOURCE(S):

Some of you like to journal your life events. If this is you, I would recommend getting a spiral notebook or journal to keep track of your spiritual journey.
I actually love to journal and have done so since I was a kid. I wanted to share a resource that I have found super helpful in journaling my walk with Jesus, and I would highly recommend it if you were interested (no pressure though).
The journal that truly is my favorite was developed by a friend of mine, Andrea Wiggins. It’s called the Journal Project. This journal gives you a space to write and several sections clearly defined to help keep you focused. Also, if you like to go back and review what you have written, you can quickly see what you wrote in that particular section. It’s great!
Prior to the Journal Project, if I wanted to read what I wrote in my journal, I would need to read my entire entry in order to see what was going on. However, with this journal, you can quickly identify what God has been doing, what verses spoke to you and how is God nudging you!
If you would like to learn more about the Journal Project or purchase a journal yourself; Andrea has graciously offered to give my subscribers a discount of 15% off the retail price. This link will automatically add 15% off to your shopping cart. Journal Project – 15% off for First Generation Christians or you can also go to The Journal Project – The Journal Project and enter coupon code: FIRSTGEN15 to receive 15% discount on your purchase.
